	Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training provides a structured learning environment for multi-disciplinary groups to develop the skills, teamwork, and organisation necessary to effectively manage paediatric emergencies. The PALS Instructor course is designed to prepare participants to effectively organise and teach the American Heart Association's PALS Provider course in their own institutions. Candidates learning to use a variety of teaching methods in a relaxed, friendly environment.

COURSE DETAILS

TARGET AUDIENCE It is intended for PALS Providers who wish to teach the PALS course to healthcare professionals. These PALS Instructor candidates may include (but are not limited to) Consultants, Registrars, Senior House Officers, Interns, Medical Students, General Practitioners, Dentists, Clinical Nurse Managers, Cardiac Technicians, Cardiac Rehabilitation Staff, Respiratory Therapists, Physiotherapists and other Allied Healthcare Personnel.
TIME FRAME This 1-day programme involves multiple learning activities. Instructor candidates learn to teach using a variety of modalities: • Small Group skills practice • Large Group lectures • DVD-Led group discussions • 1-to-1 skills remediation • Powerpoint presentation set-up • Audio-visual equipment set-up • The problem student • Course organisation and co-ordination	PHYSICIAN & DVD LED PRESENTATIONS • Teaching methods • PALS Course Organisation
	CRITERIA FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION • Actively participate in, practice, and complete all skills and learning stations • Score a minimum grade (84% or higher) on the final Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) paper.
INSTRUCTORS Our Instructors come from an Irish healthcare setting and all remain in day-to-day clinical practice. They are regarded as experts in their field and have a proven ability to teach. CODE BLUE is a registered and approved Irish Heart Foundation / American Heart Association training site. Course certificates will only be issued to approved and registered training sites where the currently certified Instructors carry full public and professional liability insurance.
CERTIFICATION Participants, who successfully complete the course, including the written examination and skills evaluation, will receive an American Heart Association PALS Instructor course completion card (credential). This accreditation is recognised in over 50 countries throughout the world.	INSTRUCTOR RATIO Participant-Instructor ratio 3:1(max) SKILLS MAINTENANCE AND RENEWAL The American Heart Association recommend that PALS instructor teach on at least 4 PALS provider courses each 2 years. Instructors should be monitored every 2 years by a National Faculaty Member for re-certification.
ONLINE PRE-COURSE TUTORIALS ACLS Training Services provides the only Irish online tutorial module specifically designed to help candidates prepare for their PALS course. Our acls.ie online tutorials are NOT a substitute for reading the IHF/AHA pre-course materials. These tutorials offer additional support to help our candidates focus their reading to the parts of the book we consider essential learning prior to taking the course. The tutorials contain a comprehensive section on rhythm recognition including sample MCQ’s and rhythm strip analysis tests. A section on the front line cardiac arrest drugs is also available on this tutorial. These tutorials are restricted to students enrolled on one of our PALS courses. Students have unrestricted access to the tutorials during their pre-course study.	COURSE EQUIPMENT Code Blue own and supply all our own training equipment. We provide higher than normal manikin to Instructor ratios on our courses allowing participants additional skill practice time.
