The Major Incident Medical Management and Support (MIMMS) course equips multidisciplinary teams with a system to manage multi-casualty incidents, including pre-event planning, triage, command & control, radio procedure and patient transport.

Delivered by experts in EMS and Emergency Medicine, the course focuses on a hands-on, integrated approach to incident planning and management.

Certification is through the Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG) and is recognised as the industry standard qualification in disaster management.

COURSE DETAILS
 
 

TARGET AUDIENCE
It is intended for participants who provide immediate on-site emergency medical support at disaster scenes and mass gatherings. Suitable candidates include (but are not limited to) doctors, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, first responders, voluntary first-aiders, health and safety staff and event promoters.

TIME FRAME
This 2-day programme involves multiple learning activities. Instructor-led skills demonstration and practice sessions that includes:

  • Scene assessment
  • Triage sieve of victims
  • Triage sorting at CCS
  • Transport off-site
  • Personal protection
  • Radio procedure
  • Table-top exercises
  • Practical exercises without casualties

DIRECTOR-LED PRESENTATIONS
  • Disaster preparedness
  • Structure of emergency services

CRITERIA FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION

  • Complete MANDATORY pre-course tutorials
  • Actively participate in, practice, and complete all skills and learning stations
  • Demonstrate competence immediate victim triage
  • Demonstrate competence in organisation and co-ordination of emergency response to a simulated multi-victim scene
INSTRUCTORS
Our Instructors come from an front-line healthcare setting in fields such as Emergency Medicine, EMS and Resuscitation Training.
CERTIFICATION
We issue a ALSG MIMMS Certificate. We also issue a certificate of attendance signed by the course Course Director.
INSTRUCTOR RATIO
Participant-Instructor ratio 3:1(max)

SKILLS MAINTENANCE AND RENEWAL
It is recommended to renew certification on a 4-yearly basis.

PRE-COURSE WORK

There is a set of MANDATORY pre-course tutorials which take approximately 3-6 hours to complete.
Participants are encouraged to read the MIMMS textbook supplied approximately 3 weeks before the course.

COURSE EQUIPMENT
Code Blue own and supply all their own training equipment. Training and exercises take place in the O'Brien Institute, Dublin Fire Brigade's training centre.
